advice for serious illnesses
Bloat with a twisted stomach (Gastric dilatation volvulus) is a serious disease in which there is gross distension of the stomach with fluid or gas and gastric mal-positioning. It causes pathology of multiple organ systems and is rapidly fatal. It is common in large and giant-breed dogs.

Kennel cough
Kennel cough is also known as infectious tracheobronchitis (it has also been called Bordatellosis or Bordatella). It is a highly contagious respiratory infection affecting the airways.

basset hound welfare & rescue
Basset Hound Welfare & Rescue (www.bassethoundwelfare.org.uk) is an independent rescue and welfare charity for all Basset Hounds. Our objective is the resettlement of unwanted Basset Hounds and the counselling of owners who experience difficulties with their hounds.
We aim to provide loving and permanent homes for those Basset Hounds whose owners, for whatever reason, can no longer keep them. They, the dispossessed, will need patience, love and security.
If you can help in any way, please do contact us
Note
Welfare is sometimes looking for foster homes for elderly but fit hounds whose owners may not be able to keep them due, possibly, to their own ill health. Is there a spare place by your fireside?
Contact Basset Hound Welfare & Rescue for all information and advice on your Basset Hound, or if you are looking to provide a home for a disadvantaged hound from the charity, please ring your nearest representative.
